 | The Perps
The Perps are William Resh (B~iLL to the iLLest) as emcee and Steve "Deep Rooted" Rubin in the role of production. This project is the manifestation of hip hop influencing the actions and minds of two people from disparate backgrounds who enjoy the culture as a form of expression. That effort can then incorporate the other cultural influences of the participants' existence. In this case, we hear everything from classical literature (Dante's Inferno) to emo-punk (Fugazi) interpolated and integrated into the quintessential hip hop core. Inspired by classic (Wu Tang, Native Tongues, Gangstarr, BDP, etc) to alternative (Def Jux, Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, etc) hip hop music, The Perps introduce intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics to song-structured melodies that retain the elemental break-beat staccato of the "rooftop" era. This is not anything like the bastardized hybrids of the late 1990s. It's not exactly like anything you've heard before. Look at it as a hip hop being re-explored in an innovative fashion. The Perps will release their debut CD in 2006.
