Eight Track Mind Band News
July 17, 2006
Things are quickly changing around these parts. First and foremost, there is a good chance the the Eight Track Mind site will be changing titles. With the current situation as it is with ETM, we just feel it would be more appropriate to make this site more a collection of works instead of simply focusing on ETM. Steve and Chris are rolling along with Girl Loves Distortion and Todd and Steve are still planning to record in the future. If you would like to come check out Girl Loves Distortion, and you are in the DC area on July 22, please come check them out at Existian. Don't worry though, the site wont change much, and you will still be able to visit us using the current url.
On another note, over the past few weeks we have been contacted by numerous old friends who seem to be finding this site via search engines. Its been great hearing from all of you. Please keep in touch you Sunnyside Dwellers.

"Well damn ETM, it's about time you fools updated your website." This was overhead on the DC Metro just the other dayor was it? Anyhow, back to bitness. Todd and Steve have been hard at work (slowly, but hard nonetheless) on the new Eight Track Mind CD tentatively titled Industry Standard. For you millions upon millions of fans that just cant wait until its release, we can let you in on a little secret: we have no clue when we will release it. Though we can tell you this, some songs that look like they are going to make the cut are "Point of View," "What You Can Get," "Dirty Girl (featuring our co-producer Rob Salerno on vocals along with Steve and a mysterious lady friend)," Chris Goett's, "Sleepwalking," and some random noise tracks cause we have to do something with all those unused recordings we've done.
In other somewhat sad news, it is looking as if ETM will be taking a hiatus on live shows. Steve and Todd are more concerned with putting out a new CD than they are with playing gigs at this juncture. But don't worry friends, we are proud to announce that Steve is embarking on yet another one of his "side-projects." This one includes Chris Goett on vocals, guitar, and bass and close affiliate Jenn Foxx-Thomas on drums and vocals along with Steve doing his usual array of tricks. The group is called Girl Loves Distortion (www.myspace.com/girllovesdistortion. Hey, isn't that also a name of an ETM song that might be on the new CD?) Well yes son, it is.

You might have noticed a slight change of layout and coloring on the Eight Track Mind website since the last time you visited. Well, that is because our Editor, Jaded Bitterman, has been hard at work recoding and semi-redesigning the site. After all these years of content addition we figured it was time for a clean up. We kept all the old content in place, just added some easier navigation (<see left), a great new Flash-based MP3 Player (see right >), new photos and articles, and last but not least, downloadable mp3's of our most recent show at the Velvet Lounge.

We are still hard at work in the studio with Vanishing Point Productions and plan to lay down some of our new tunes in a few weeks for the upcomming CD. As well, a recent internet blog picked up our very own Jaded Bitterman's top ten list about why Neil Young is better than Bob Dylan and all hell broke loose once the Dylan fans got hold of it. Blog owner Thrasher was contacted by the ETM editors and came out to the show at the Velvet Lounge a few weeks back and did a great write up about his take on things here. His brother in arms Mansion on the Hill was also kind enough to put ETM's "Passion" in rotation on his radio show. Oh the wonderful joys on the annonymous world that is the interweb!

We are glad to announce we will be entering the studio with Vanishing Point Productions in mid-November to begin recording our next full length album. We will also be filming a documentary-esque DVD with The Worthy Brothers on the making of the album and hope that both will be released simultaneously sometime in the spring of 2006. Check back later for more updates.

When I logged onto WashingtonPost.com today I read the headline: Simon Wiesenthal Dies at 96. I was saddened to read this and felt the need to address it on our site simply because of what he stood for. In case you don't know his history, Simon Wiesenthal was best known as a Holocaust survivor who lost 87 relatives in the war and went on to become a famous Nazi hunter. His determination for "justice not vengence" attributed to the capture of such scumbags as Adolph Eichmann and other Nazi war criminals. Not only was he a great soldier in the fight against anti-Semitism, but he also fought for the rights of all minorities and oppressed people. The world could use more great men like this.Steve Rubin
PSAnd for the asshole that stole my bike Saturday here in DC, you can be assured that I will hunt you down like Wiesenthal, except I believe in revenge, not justice, when it comes to theft.

About a year ago a good friend of mine, Josh Bolton (of Juice fame for all you Mountaineers/Baltimorians), asked me to score some music for a surfing movie he was producing called Drawing Lines. He and his partner, Justin Weber, were filming a duo of surfers on their journey to surf every east coast state starting in Florida and ending in Maine (and during hurricane season to boot).
I booked us some time with Vanishing Point Productions, starting collaborating with Josh on the themes and styles he was looking for, called up Todd to play some drums, and a year later we are very proud to announce that Josh and Justin ended up using basically everything we recorded in the film. You can check out our Drawing Lines page here to download all of the music and read a little something about the film. Since this technically wasn't an Eight Track Mind project (but members were involved) we decided to credit the score as The Lords of DC.Steve Rubin
